Tips for gathering evidence to demonstrate your skills

The important thing to remember when gathering evidence is that the more evidence the better - that is, the more evidence you gather to demonstrate your skills, the more confident an assessor can be that you have learned the skills not just at one point in time, but are continuing to apply and develop those skills (as opposed to just learning for the test!). Furthermore, one piece of evidence that you collect will not usualy demonstrate all the required criteria for a unit of competency, whereas multiple overlapping pieces of evidence will usually do the trick!

A person competent in this unit must be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

legal and organisational requirements and codes of practice relevant to the full range of processes for fire prevention

environmental protection requirements, including the safe disposal of waste material

organisational and site policies and procedures for fire prevention

environmental risk assessment and hazard identification for:

flammable liquid and gases that might be used or found in the workplace

storage areas for flammable liquids or gases

mixing and blending vessels for flamable liquids or gases

types of tools and equipment, and their safe use, for fire prevention

procedures for recording and reporting workplace information

signs of fire

personal protective equipment and its fire protection properties

fire weather evaluation.
